Auto insurance rates down slightly, but not enough

Approved auto insurance rates in the province decreased on average by about three per cent in the first quarter of this year.
That brings the decrease over the past couple of years to 10 per cent on average — still short of the 15 per cent cut the Liberals had promised by August of 2015 as part of a deal with the N-D-P when they were still a minority government.
When the deadline came and went last year, Premier Kathleen Wynne said she always knew it was a “stretch goal.”
Finance Minister Charles Sousa says the government has made progress, but further reductions must be made “in a fair and practical manner” and the auto insurance industry must also do its part.
